In the port of Callao you cannot walk out of the port as it
is a working port and is very secure. In face when the drivers come in they
have to have an ID and pass a fingerprint scan. Holland provides shuttles to
the port entrance, San Miguel (a shopping mall) and to Miraflores (an upscale
suburb of Lima). Today we took the shuttle to Miraflores, which is about a 35
minute ride from the port. They let you off at the Marriot. The shuttle runs
every half hour. The Marriot is right across from the cliffs that line the
beach. Unfortunately you cannot walk down to where the beach is, but you can
get a good view. This is summer in Lima and everyone says it never rains and is
sunny in the summer. However, all three days we have been here, it has been
overcast and foggy (I think there is some smog in the fog). It was no different
today.
Then someone had told us to go to the Inka and Indian
Markets, so off we went the other way. It is a very clean and nice city to be
in. The first thing we came upon was an exercise group, in the middle of the
street. There was a woman on the stage and all of these women in the street
dancing (exercising) to the music and her instructions.
Next we came upon a gorgeous park. Being this was Sunday
there were lots of people around. Here are some pictures of the park.
We finally got to the Inka and Indian markets. They just
sold souvenirs like you can get on the pier of the ship. The walk was great and
it was great to see all the people.
As the shuttle took us back to the ship we drove down from
Miraflores along the shore and were able to get some good pictures of the
cliffs from the bottom.
Lastly, I did get a fairly good picture of the lighthouse.
