2017.03.02 Crossing the Equator

This morning we had the crossing of the equator ceremony that is a ritual when you cross it. The story is that King Neptune is upset with the ship and its crew that have never crossed the equator. King Neptune and his Royal Court initiate the Pollywog crew who have never before crossed the equator in to the order of Shellbacks. The ritual starts with the kings guards leading in all the crew that have not crossed the equator (actually they pick a few from each of the departments).

They are followed by King Neptune and his Queen.

They are followed by the officers who will be the judges.

Then they bring out the prisoners in groups by department and someone reads the crimes they have committed. Then they are told to kiss the fish, and then get slimed. Once they are covered with the slime the judges determine whether they will bake (slime is make a meringue) at the side of the pool or be thrown in the pool (the better of the two options). The slime is applied on tables at the side of the pool by the so called doctors.

When it is all over the baked ones go into the pool and all is forgiven. However, in this case there is a group of guys preforming tonight called the Mersey boys from England and she asks if they are in the audience. Unfortunately, they raised their hands and were brought to the king. They were not prepared and had to empty their pockets and take off their shoes. They then knelt before the king, got slime and were thrown in the pool. Completely unexpected by them.

A lot of fun, but warm out there.
