Guadeloupe is an overseas department of France, meaning its
fully considered French soil. This much is made obvious by the French you will
hear spoken all around you, the Euros you will use to pay for things and the
wide selection of French food and wine that’s available. But it is also the
Caribbean, meaning there are uniquely Caribbean elements – open air markets
filled with spices and tropical fruits set against a backdrop of rain forests,
waterfalls and of course, the stunning coastline.
Point-a-Pitre is specially known as being the cultural
center of Guadeloupe with its many museums, cultural and historic sites,
interesting architecture and vibrant markets.
This being said, we only walked in to town to the markets,
so do not expect and cultural pictures today, and probably not tomorrow, and
then two days and home.
This is a pretty port, and only a few blocks walk into town.
Here are some pictures that Steve took from the balcony looking down on the
town early this morning as we docked.
Then as we got off they did have a band playing in the
market area they had set up on the pier.
These are some of the pictures we took in town. There were
two markets, one with produce and one with bottled items. The markets are
always interesting.
Sorry, but that is it.
